Beijing Congress
Programme Highlights
Here are some
beneficial take-aways from attending the Congress sessions:
Member
Institutes: 5 member institutes have been selected to
make 10 minutes presentations each at the Inaugural Session on Day 1
(afternoon). They will share some aspect
of the workings of their Institutes which we could find interesting and learn
from. In addition Gerd Pretchel, ICMCI
Vice President, who also chairs the ICMCI Europe Hub will provide us with
insights on new members in Europe.
Building Partnerships:
The theme of this
year’s Congress is on Building
Partnerships, Sharing Knowledge and Best Practices. On the first part of the theme presentations
include “Partnership with Consulting Practices”, “Consulting Strategy on Cross-cultural
Environment” and “Leveraging on our NGO
status”, accorded by the United Nations.
Sharing Knowledge and Best Practices: On
this 2nd part of the theme; papers include sharing the results of a
survey on training in management consultancies and another study on customer
satisfaction with consulting services. ICMCI ExCom will also share its best
practices in member/CMC assessments.
ICMCI Strategy: Importantly for ICMCI, Chairman Bary Curnow with VP Peter
Sorensen and other ExCom members will discuss with trustees on the development of
a strategic plan for ICMCI. The prime
purpose of this is to further develop its capability as a world-class
organisation playing a critical role in advancing the profession of management
consultancy despite severe limitations in financial and other resources.
Visit to
Tsinghua University
Tsinghua is one of China’s foremost universities. The visit will take place on Day 3, 6.30 – 8.30 pm, after the official close of the
Congress. The main agenda will be a
dialogue session between staff and students of the University with visiting
consultants (both foreign and local). This is for interested delegates and
companions only. As the University will
be hosting a dinner for us as part of the visit, please register your
attendance at the on-site reception counter on Day 1 to facilitate transport
and catering arrangements.
General Business
Meeting: Our Chairman will present his report on ICMCI’s
activities and progress over the last two years. The accounts will also be presented and,
following recent elections, the new ExCom will be announced.
Companions Programme
Traditionally companions, comprising spouses, family
members and others, will attend the dinner entertainment programmes delegates
as well as lunch on the last day of the Congress. The rest of the time will on sightseeing and
shopping. The costs of these outings are
all inclusive in the registration fee for companions (US$350).
As for shopping, a unique privilege awaits you. Some English speaking university students
have volunteered to accompany small groups so that you will avoid any language
difficulties and be able to shop at local prices.
Calling All Trustees/Presi-dents of Member Institutes
The Congress, particularly its
General Business Meeting, could not possibly be convened without a critical
mass of Trustees present. To those of
you who have not yet registered your attendance at the Beijing Congress, ExCom
strongly urge you to do so. If you are
unable to attend in person, do send at least one representative from your
Institute.
Registration: Please register via the ICMCI website,
particularly if you also wish to register for the CmCC and World Management
Forum in Shanghai. You could also do so directly with ICMCI’s Executive
Director via email: becky@icmci.org or fax
+1-650-342-2250. The registration fee
for the Beijing Congress is US$ 450 for delegates and US$ 350 for companions.
